Chakra Talk

Chakra Talk

News Drop offers principles and practices for living in alignment with nature. For living osteopathically, in flow.

When we align with the forces of the natural world there is no limit to the sanity, ease and grace we can experience regardless of what is happening.

I can’t think of a more relevant conversation. Ready to dive in?

Let’s talk chakras. Is your vessel prepared for the weather?

This past week was hard. I had been on a bit of a creativity bender the week before, and doing much more of everything I usually do. I was flirting with fate. It was fun! It was so much fun . . . and then, as part of me knew it might, my momentum caught up with me.

Coincidence would have it that as my bender neared its close, I was rushing to a dinner event. I call myself a “rush-free zone”, and I was breaking rules all over the place. Just like I did when I then ordered food that I normally don’t eat. I could almost hear the sound of the crash as I hit the wall the next day.

I was in bed for days. Grateful for the rest for sure, and definitely a little bit shocked by the contrast. I was kind of laughing inside. I joked with a friend, “the Universe just spanked me.” Silliness felt like good medicine. Ok, maybe the Universe didn’t quite spank me, and she definitely did assert what felt like a loving, firm (very firm!) boundary on my behalf.

What was I up to while feeling so bad? TONS of meditative practice. I also listened to stories. It’s common to have things pop up that seem to directly speak to my immediate circumstance. Sometimes I joke, “The Gods choose my Netflix.”

I had been listening for days to a recorded meditation, Kundalini Awakening, Guided Exercise with Binaural Beats, narrated by one of the only voices my aching head could tolerate. I love how simply and cleanly she transmits essential aspects of our energetic anatomy. I love how she inspired me to remember that our kundalini energy is the source of creativity, power, and sexual energy, and that these are all one. I love how she starts with understanding and tuning each chakra. It was like I was being told, “go ahead, you can run full steam as long as you put a little more attention on making sure your engine is prepared for the trip!”

I’ve written about kundalini and chakras before, about how I didn’t think much about them till I felt them. Woah! When I was about ten years into osteopathic practice and going about my business following the body’s guidance, out of the blue a row of chakras lit up right down the center of the body on the table before me. “Cool”, I thought, “clearly that’s what happens when the body rights itself.” (I will share about the first time I felt Kundalini energy another time soon; it is a fantastic story).

Chakras are real anatomy. Our chakras are integral to our experience of flow, grace, and, wellbeing. Each chakra is unique, specific, and rich with possibility. Their function is so integral I’m certain all beings were balanced in this way, life on this planet would be much more harmonious.

I chose to share the meditation above because it’s a yummy, bite-sized introduction to chakra anatomy and kundalini energy. I love her guidance through each center and how she combines each level with its corresponding frequency in the form of sound.

I love hearing her share about the things we might feel as our bodies wake up, like tingling, buzzing, humming, and other sensations similar to the ones we have when a limb comes back from falling asleep, or frostbite. Thawing sensations can happen from chi gong, yoga, Continuum practice; any practice that moves energy, including osteopathic treatment.

I have newly become even more clear that freeing and balancing our electrical anatomy is how we wake up and heal our bodies. I asked a close and very intuitive friend in my osteopathic lineage, “Do you think our teachers knew that the healing work we do activates Kundalini energy?” She said, “I don’t see how couldn’t know. If their human selves didn’t know, I’m certain their higher selves did.”

I feel such gratitude to live in a time where there is less and less resistance to ideas about how nature actually works. Nature and spirit are here to guide us. The question is, how ready are we to listen?

Freeing and balancing our electrical anatomy is how we wake up and heal our bodies.

We are wired to heal in connection. The clip above is from one of the gatherings I hold where patients, students, healers and doctors practice feeling and balancing their energetic anatomy. All are welcome — the doors of the Flow is Medicine Healing Practice Lab are always open!

Have you experienced chakras in yourself or another? If you’ve taken a listen to the particularly osteopathic guided practice above, what did you notice, love, or not love? If you’ve had insights or Aha moments, we’d love to hear about it!
