Dropping into the Heart

Dropping into the Heart

News Drop offers principles and practices for living in alignment with nature. For living osteopathically, in flow.

When we align with the forces of the natural world there is no limit to the sanity, ease and grace we can experience regardless of what is happening.

I can’t think of a more relevant conversation. Ready to dive in?

15 years ago, my heart felt so big that I was sure if I moved an inch, it would touch the wall ten feet away.

The experience was beyond words, beyond understanding, and the beginning of my freedom.

I had just finished a very powerful three-day movement meditation retreat. I felt so calm, and so present. When my infant daughter saw me and ran to me, her face flooded with joy, the love that swelled in my chest took my breath away. My heart burst with the most powerful feeling of love I’ve ever felt. My heart was HUGE, many times the size of my body.

I also felt tremendous sadness. I couldn’t remember having felt that much love, that much of my heart, ever before. Where had I been? It’s taken me years to understand that, like most of us, I had been living in my head, in the zone of logic, worry, analysis and ultimately, little good. What would this world be like if we lived in our hearts?

One night last week, I was distracted, restless and feeling low. So I lay a hand on my chest, mustered gratitude for several blessings, and breathed, felt and thought through my heart. I could hardly believe how quickly I was flooded with a sense that all is well. This short clip tells a little more of the story of that beautiful, zany experience:

How do we return to our hearts? We begin by dropping into our bodies. We return through our willingness to feel, breathe fully, and be present in every cell — not just when in nature, with loved ones, and in our practices, but all the time.

What would this world be like if everyone lived in their hearts?

Ready for some research? As a gift from my heart to yours, I’m sharing the recording of last week’s healing practice lab I titled, Dropping into the Heart, An Osteopathically Inspired Healing Meditation. My hope is that the feeling, the consciousness of this entire conversation, can be transmitted as a sensory experience. I’d love to hear of any inspirations, feelings, stories or questions that arise for you.

It takes practice to get the hang of being in the body. We practice, discuss and delight in all things love and life force in the Flow is Medicine self-paced and live online community. Our doors are always open.

Thank you for being here, for being open, and for doing your best on behalf of your amazing body and this blessed life.
