Your Body Can Make Music

Your Body Can Make Music

News Drop offers principles and practices for living in alignment with nature. For living osteopathically, in flow.

When we align with the forces of the natural world there is no limit to the sanity, ease and grace we can experience regardless of what is happening.

I can’t think of a more relevant conversation. Ready to dive in?

Resonance, coherence and harmony benefit living things.

Can you imagine that living in resonance is far more lovely than living in dissonance? If you can, you’re one step closer to a harmonious body, and we’re all one step closer to a harmonious life and planet. Resonance goes viral!

Perpetual curiosity is the receptive, creative, magical stuff of life.

Have you ever looked back on seemingly random events in your life only to wonder how they could have possibly been random given the elegance and precision of the design?

Physicists use the term Quantum Entanglement when speaking of the nature of coincidence, and the fundamental interconnectedness of all things. We also speak of forces at work, such as Spirit, Source, Universal Intelligence, and God. I don’t get too hung up on the terms.

I didn’t think or know about resonance when I chose osteopathic school. I didn’t realize a lot of things. Now I see that the many steps and stages of my life journey have led to this deep, essential understanding.

I remember the day my childhood friend asked me if I knew what osteopathic medicine is. We were both applying to medical schools, and after a few interviews at MD schools that distinctly did NOT resonate, I called her in a panic. “Have you thought of DO school?” she asked. I had not. “It’s the same, except more holistic,” she said. While the reality is far more complex than that, her words were such a tremendous relief. She was right, and the rest is history.

Winding the clock back even further, pre-med in the UC system did not resonate at all. I was so crestfallen to be magnetized so wholly toward something potent I had yet to define, only to end up in 500+ seat classrooms with students and professors that didn’t really want to be there.

Wouldn’t you have it, that’s when I “randomly” chose an architectural history course with the visionary architect Reyner Banham. I didn’t know him from Adam. I was looking for life, and I found it. It wasn’t long before I thought I was trading in medicine for architecture. What was really happening was that the Universe had added a stop to my trip.

The program of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley was all about studying patterns in nature, the golden mean geometries of the ancients, and the wisdom of indigenous design. These are all connected, and inherently embody resonance, harmony, balance and life. I just described osteopathy. This seemingly “random” shift in college prepared me perfectly to me for the next piece.

Osteopathy is all about supporting interconnectedness, balance and resonance in bodies. When we treat patients, or teach them to treat themselves, we’re seeking that beautiful return to coherence between the cellular, the skeletal, and the functional, which includes the energetic body.

Resonance. Coherence. Osteopaths can feel it, and with a little practice, so can you. It feels like a hum. When our bodies entrain with the symphony of the larger forces at play in the natural world, when we step beyond the confinements of the mental/intellectual and restore to our true nature, we each emanate a beautiful, unique song. This is why I know that your body can make music.

Receiving an osteopathic treatment is akin to having the instrument of your body, or the idle of your body’s engine, tuned perfectly. Patients can often feel the hum of their well-tuned resonance state in one visit. We can also find our way back to resonance through Continuum practice, yoga, chi gong, tango dancing, or any practice that takes you into flow. Coherence is flow.

Flow is not just for practice time. Animals live in harmony with the forces of nature all the time, and so did we in more primitive times. We can breathe in flow, walk in flow and sit in flow because we are native to flow.

Not so randomly, I’ve come to understand that our state of resonance, coherence and harmony is the most powerful determinant of health. That’s why I’ve put so much energy into sharing guidance in my Self Study Library, new eBook Get Into Flow, these newsletters, and a book.

We can breathe in flow, walk in flow, and sit in flow because we are flow.

I’m collecting essays for a book! When you think back on your life, do you find evidence of coherence, of flow, of connection to some larger intelligence or guidance? We’d love to hear about it!
